Fohlenhof Ebbs - The World Centre of the Haflinger Breeding
is a modern large stud farm with 120 Haflingers and lies in the idyllic town Ebbs at the foot of the "Zahmen Kaiser". 2 riding halls, several stables with approx. 100 boxes and pens for the young horses, a stadium, the Fohlenhof Arena, with more then 3,500 seats as well as an administrative and residential building make up the heart of this traditional stud farm. Approximately 10 ha of paddocks, a driving terrain with dressage area and 6 permanent obstacles round off the stud farm next to the castle Wagrain in Ebbs.
The adjoining museum provides information on the Haflinger and its use, the success of the stud farm and documents on the great events in the past.
Fohlenhof Ebbs, the oldest Haflinger stud farm in the world also means the most important Haflinger stud farm and is open daily to visitors.
From October to May there are approx. 120 Haflinger horses in the Fohlenhof stables and in the summer months when the young horses are on the alpine meadow one can see the mare herds with their foals and the stud stallions. At this time there are still about 100 horses, amongst them the most famous Haflingers in the world, with reigning World and European champions of the last 10 years. The importance of the Fohlenhof is also that from the stud farm Haflingers have conquered the world. From the Tyrolean association and its sales centre, Haflingers have been sold to almost 60 states so far and Fohlenhof is, so to speak, the beginning of the world success of the Haflinger.
Apart from Mondays the purebred mares and stallions can be seen daily at work and in training.
Naturally you can also use the horse yourself the whole day for riding and driving in the halls and outside. Even during bad weather the Fohlenhof is worth a trip as most of the attractions are roofed over. The highlight of any visit is, any case, the Friday evening show where in about 60 minutes in up to 15 different programme items the universal utility of the Haflinger is demonstrated. You can see dressage, from the quadrille to the stallion, side saddle to the long reins. Naturally breeding is also addressed where World Champion horses are introduced and mares with their foals are shown. Obedience tests, horseball or roman riding are also demonstrated along with jumping and vaulting. Of course there is also driving which is also shown in this impressive show and is never boring. An expert commentary gives insight into what is shown, the breed Haflinger and its charm which it has kept through purebreeding.
