Stallion Performance Test 2026: Waldkönig and Amino claim victory

Great success for Tyrolean Haflinger breeding in Stadl-Paura: Both age groups go to Tyrolean association stallions, and all Tyrolean participants are well above the minimum value score.

A little over a year ago, they were still at the Tyrolean Stallion Farm, now they have become performance-tested breeding stallions. At this year's Stallion Performance Test at the Horse Center Stadl-Paura, the young Haflingers from Tyrol showed their potential. They were prepared at the Foal Farm in Ebbs.

The second selection step after the licensing

The targeted training of mares and stallions is a central component of the breeding program of the Haflinger Horse Breeding Association Tyrol. The station test with final examination represents the decisive second selection step on the path to recognition as a breeding stallion following the licensing.

The test began on September 15 with the admission test. This was followed by a 30-day station test under uniform conditions. On October 13 and 14, the two-day final examination took place before an independent panel of judges. Riding, driving, free jumping, and cross-country performance were assessed. The results from the station test counted for 60 percent of the final score, while the final exam counted for 40 percent. An especially important role was played by the interior—character, temperament, willingness to learn, and performance inclination: It contributed 30 percent to the overall grade.

Three-Year-Old Stallions: Overall Victory for Waldkönig

The overall victory for groups 1 and 2 went clearly to lic. 633/T Waldkönig (s. Walzertraum a.d. Schuscha n. Stainz PrH., Breeder: Dietmar Schneider, Höchst). With an overall score of 8.43, he ranked first in all three disciplines: Riding 8.24, Driving 8.59, Interior 8.57.

Other association stallions also impressed:

• lic. 631/T Almwirt (s. Almkönig, Breeder: Family Mair - Neuwirt, Ellbögen): 7.78, Rank 6
• lic. 637/T Wimbledon (s. Walzertraum, Breeder: Jennifer Zebisch, Imst): 7.55, Rank 8
• lic. 632/T Sinclair (s. Shirocco, Breeder: Haflinger Horse Breeding Association Tyrol, Foal Farm Ebbs): 7.51

Sinclair had to pause briefly due to an eye inflammation. His scores were extrapolated, therefore he is listed outside of the regular ranking. As a result, all four Tyrolean association stallions were clearly above the minimum score of 7.00, which is a nice confirmation of the sustainable breeding goals of the association.

Four-Year-Old Stallions: Amino wins decisively

In the four-year-olds category, lic. 612/T Amino (s. Almkönig, Owner: Jan Smeltink, Breeder: Nadine Wörle, Musau) won with 8.02, also taking first place in all three characteristic complexes. Second place went to lic. 614/T Abendprinz (s. Amerigo PrH., Owner: Jean Theis, Breeder: Christina Wagner, Münster) with 7.83. In third place was 619/DK Wilton (s. Westwind) with 7.67, a stallion from our Danish member association DTH. Thus, all three top spots went to stallions from our breeding environment.

We congratulate all participants on passing the performance test, especially the owners and breeders of the Tyrolean stallions. Successfully completing the test fulfills an important requirement for entry in the main stallion book.

Training with Responsibility

In the Haflinger Horse Breeding Association Tyrol, horse-friendly and nature-oriented rearing and training are at the forefront. This includes herd upbringing over two summers in the Alps until October and an age-appropriate start to training at three years. This is the basis for healthy, high-performing, and balanced Haflingers that can showcase their qualities in the long term.
