The Tyrolean Haflinger young mares make their grand entrance at the annual studbook recording. This is where the breeding quality, character and appearance of the young mares are shown at their best. The event is one of the most important dates in the Tyrolean breeding calendar and offers exciting comparisons between the best representatives of the breed. The high quality and diversity of Tyrolean Haflinger breeding is on display every year - impressive proof of the successful development of this traditional horse breed.
More precise evaluation in the Haflinger breeding programme
As stipulated in the current breeding programme of the Haflinger Horse Breeding Association Tyrol (valid since 01.01.2021) under point 8.1.1, half scores can also be awarded for the assessment of the "external appearance" trait for better differentiation. The overall score is calculated from the arithmetic mean of the individual characteristics and is rounded to two decimal places for mares and stallions.
This grading system has been used successfully for stallion gradings for decades and has also been implemented for mares since this year. The introduction of half marks ensures a more objective differentiation, which has a positive effect on the ratings - the average overall score increases by around three tenths of a point. At the same time, the new system offers significant added value for statistical analyses and thus supports the sustainable further development of Tyrolean Haflinger breeding.
