Fohlenhof Ebbs - Museum
The museum has a good collection of carriages and sledges for the Haflinger horse, many of which are more than 100 years old - most of them can still be driven and all of them are excellently preserved and restored. Several of the carriages were made by the imperial coachbuilder, Lohner, in Vienna, who together with Ferdinand Porsche built the first Porsche for the World Exhibition in 1900. The landau was once the coach of the Archbishop of Salzburg and the hearse comes from Lustenau and is still used today by the state of Tyrol as official hearse. A small but good collection.
A large area of the exhibition is dedicated to old farm equipment. For example you can see ploughs, harrows, hay carts, loading saddles and wooden sledges for use with horses. An expedition into the earlier use of the Haflinger in rural Tyrol.
Another area of course involves the history of the Haflinger with the first stud books from 1920 and heritage certificates from different decades, stable insignia, certificates of honour and breed prizes, old pictures and documents on the World Exhibition and international shows.
Photos from different countries and years show many interesting things and famous Haflinger breeders. The collection is rounded off with historical pictures. Also to be seen are many prizes, cups and memoranda of breeding and the Haflinger tournament sport, all of them won by Haflinger horses from Fohlenhof or from Tyrolean breeders from the whole association area.
A special feature is the 200 year-old original saddle used in the film "The Last Valley" that was shot in Tyrol with Omar Sharif and Michael Caine in the main roles. The museum is on the first floor in the former barn of the castle stables.
