Many hands, good work – Haflinger Connect:

A cross-border Interreg project for car-free and free travel to the Haflinger World Exhibition

press release | Ebbs | 22.05.2025

On May 22, 2025, a press conference was held at Fohlenhof Ebbs on the Interreg Bavaria-Austria project Haflinger Connect. Together with the municipality of Kiefersfelden and numerous supporters, the municipality of Ebbs and Fohlenhof Ebbs have developed a sustainable solution for the last mile to the Haflinger World Exhibition. Over 650 Haflinger horses and 180 foals from more than 14 countries will take part in this year's exhibition, which will make Fohlenhof Ebbs in Tyrol the international center of the Haflinger horse world. The event promises four days of a varied and fascinating program with a wide range of show performances. Further details about the program can be found at www.haflinger-tirol.com.

Mayor Josef Ritzer of Ebbs, Mayor Hajo Gruber of Kiefersfelden, and Managing Director Robert Mair of Fohlenhof have developed the idea of providing free and sustainable travel to the World Exhibition during intensive preparatory discussions. The admission ticket to the Haflinger World Exhibition includes free travel with the VVT to Kufstein train station. Visitors from Bavaria and Tyrol, as well as residents of the border region, will not have to walk the last mile and can leave their cars at home, emphasized Mayor Josef Ritzer.

In addition, the Kaiser-Reich guest card offers free travel on the BRB regional train 54 between Kiefersfelden and Kufstein, which allows all Kiefersfelden residents and guests to use a free shuttle bus to Fohlenhof Ebbs, explained First Mayor Hajo Gruber. He also pointed out the special travel option by ferry from Kiefersfelden to Ebbs, as the free shuttle bus stop is only a few meters away.

Barbara Schwaighofer, President of Euregio Inntal, expressed her delight at the cooperation between the two border communities of Ebbs and Kiefersfelden. She reported that the project had been unanimously approved at the Euregio Inntal Plus committee meeting and that Euregio Inntal would support the project with funds from the Interreg Bavaria-Austria program.

During the four days of the World Exhibition, the shuttle bus will run from Kufstein station between 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. approximately every 30 minutes and from Fohlenhof back to Kufstein station from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. For more details, please refer to the arrival and departure flyer from Tyrol and Kiefersfelden.

Manuel Tschenet, managing director of Kufstein mobil, emphasized the advantages of traveling to the Haflinger World Exhibition: "Travel to the Haflinger World Exhibition will be comfortable, environmentally friendly, and inexpensive this year. Free shuttle buses every 30 minutes between the Fohlenhof and Kufstein train station, with optimal connections to Innsbruck and Munich, will ensure a stress-free arrival and departure without a car.

Georg Hörhager, tourism representative for TVB Kufsteinerland, emphasized the importance of this project for the further expansion of car-free tourism in the Euregio Inntal region.

Michael Jäger, member of the state parliament and member of the Euregio Inntal executive committee, was delighted with the realization of this joint project, which arose from discussions with the Fohlenhof Ebbs and the municipalities.

Lukas Scheiber, chairman of the Haflinger Horse Breeding Association of Tyrol, emphasized that, in addition to the spectacular program, sustainable travel to the Haflinger World Exhibition 2025 will also be offered, which represents a significant improvement to the overall project.

Robert Mair, managing director of Fohlenhof Ebbs, concluded by emphasizing the family-friendly nature of the Haflinger World Exhibition and thanking all cooperation partners for making this project a reality.

All those present agreed that, even beyond the Haflinger World Exhibition, joint efforts should continue to promote car-free and sustainable tourism.
